Pursuing True Knowledge
Nathanael Flock
November 3rd, 2009

At IHOP Atlanta's last staff meeting, Billy Humphrey charged the staff to corporately focus on the knowledge of God.  Billy said something that really struck me: the world systems of this present age are being constructed to encroach upon the knowledge of God. This reminded me once more why I am needing to frequently ask the Lord what is covertly hindering my growth in him.

In the parable of the seed and sower (Mark 4:1-20), Jesus said the "thorns" that keep the seeds from bearing fruit are the worries of this age, the seduction of wealth, and the desires for other things.  Essentially, if the temporal things (which are seen) become the cornerstone, then our understanding of God and His Word (which are eternal) become minuscule, leaving us vulnerable to fall as Eve did. If we don't know God's character through fellowship in His Word by the Spirit, then it is quite simple for the enemy to sway us with the same four words Satan spoke to Eve: "Did God really say...?"  Soon after Paul noted that every argument and high-minded thing is raised up against the knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:5) he said, "I fear that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your minds may be corrupted from a complete and pure devotion to Christ" (2 Corinthians 11:3). Without the pure knowledge of God, we are easy game for the lion who seeks to devour whom he may. This is a repeated theme throughout the Scriptures: we are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6).

Consider Daniel and his three contemporaries: they separated themselves from more than just pork and meat with blood. They set themselves apart because they were to express the ways and nature of their God in a foreign land. It was not just about fulfilling the law, it was about being an ambassador for their Lord. Because of their continual devotion they were greatly rewarded. Their reward: wisdom and understanding far beyond those who followed other gods. This wisdom and understanding carried them through trials into honored places in the Word of God. The knowledge of God was their priority, and it became their refuge.

We are in a darker hour, and the knowledge of God once more must be the priority of the faithful. To be true ambassadors of Christ, we must speak as ones who know our King and His kingdom. The apostle Peter said, “therefore. gird the loins of your mind, being self-disciplined, and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:13). It is at the revelation of Jesus that we obtain grace to stand in this dark hour. It is when the knowledge of God is revealed through Jesus, who is the Word, we have grace to stand as lights in the dark. Like Daniel, let us set ourselves apart from the worries of this age, the seduction of wealth, and desires for other things, and wholeheartedly pursue the knowledge of God.

Calendar

Healing Rooms
10/26/2014 3:45pm - 4:45pm

If you are wrestling with physical sickness, a chronic disease, a painful injury, or a heavy emotional burden, then there is good news for you. God's Word says that He is exceedingly kind and loves to heal (Psalm 103:1-5). During His earthly ministry, Jesus healed all who came to Him (Matthew 4:24). God has promised that the prayer of faith will restore the one who is sick (James 5:15). Therefore, we want to stand with you in prayer and faith, believing God to perform a healing work in your life.

Our Healing Rooms will be held from 3:45 - 4:45 pm on Sunday evenings weekly.

Appointments for personal ministry can be made starting at 3:30 pm on a first-come, first-serve basis. This personal time of ministry will typically last 20 minutes with one of our Healing Rooms ministry teams.

Prophecy Rooms
10/26/2014 3:45pm - 4:45pm

At IHOP Atlanta, we desire to encourage and strengthen believers through the prophetic ministry. We have prophecy teams that are trained to hear the heart of the Lord for people and to minister His words of encouragement, edification, and exhortation (1 Cor 14:3). It is our prayer that believers will be strengthened in their faith and have a clearer understanding of how God feels and thinks about them after receiving ministry in the prophecy rooms. If you desire to encounter God's love for you in practical way, we encourage you to sign up for a ministry time in our prophecy rooms.

The prophecy rooms are open on Sundays from 3:45-4:45 PM. Appointments can be made 15 minutes prior. They are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Appointments typically last 10 minutes and are recorded for your convenience.
