The Psalm of the Nazirite
Nathanael Flock
December 18th, 2011

In case you haven’t been attending the Encounter Services at IHOP Atlanta in the past few weeks, I would highly recommend listening to the podcasts. Billy is calling us back to the undeniable truth that the essence of a forerunner is inseparable from the reality of a Nazirite. The call for a Nazirite generation hasn’t been drowned in the flood of self-gratification and immorality that is destroying so many lives. No, friends, the call is only getting louder, and Billy’s right: 2012 is the perfect time to set ourselves apart even more.

The flesh has a funny way of being inadvertently domineering - and it often triumphs when it is coupled with a fear of consecration. When consecration is mentioned, we tend to close up and cling to what brings comfort and, unfortunately also what dulls us to the reality of our utter barrenness. However, if we are going to be honest, Nazirites are the true pleasure-seekers. Anyone who gives up legitimate pleasures of this world to get more of God knows something: they are trading up. Consecration isn’t giving up good, pleasurable things - it’s gaining the most pleasurable and most good.
Just look at the apostle Paul. He said some radically audacious thoughts to support this. “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no plans to satisfy the fleshly desires” (Romans 13:14). Also, “Because of Him I have suffered the loss of all things and consider them filth, so that I may gain Christ” (Philippians 3:8). Paul and Peter both preached a gospel of consecration from fleshly desires, because they knew the soul is driven by hunger. We just have to teach our souls what will absolutely satisfy.

In this hour of great need, I’m finding my heart burn when I read Psalm 119. It is the longest prophetic song in the Scripture, and I’m certain it is the cry of a true Nazirite. The psalm can be summed up well in verses 35-37: “Guide me on the path of your commands, for I take pleasure in it. Bend my heart toward your instructions and not toward selfish gain. Turn my eyes away from worthless things; with Your ways, give me life” (CJB). In His commands we find pleasure, in His instructions we come out from selfish ambition, and in His ways alone we find life. The world doesn’t need anymore double-dipping; half in the world, half in the Word. It’s time we hungered for His commands, His instruction, and His ways. I encourage you to read Psalm 119 every week this next year, and pray aloud the cries found in this powerful song. This is the psalm for a heart longing to be set apart for God.

Calendar

Global Bridegroom Fast
9/1/2014 to 9/3/2014
The Global Bridegroom Fast is a monthly, solemn assembly of believers all over the globe in unified holy abandonment to Jesus for three days. We are calling believers worldwide to join together in unified prayer and fasting for revival motivated by experiencing love for Jesus. This is not simply an event, but a new lifestyle in the grace of God. Anyone in any place can participate in the Global Bridegroom Fast. At IHOP Atlanta, we set aside these three days as corporate fasting days for anyone who wants to participate.
Healing Rooms
9/7/2014 3:45pm - 4:45pm

If you are wrestling with physical sickness, a chronic disease, a painful injury, or a heavy emotional burden, then there is good news for you. God's Word says that He is exceedingly kind and loves to heal (Psalm 103:1-5). During His earthly ministry, Jesus healed all who came to Him (Matthew 4:24). God has promised that the prayer of faith will restore the one who is sick (James 5:15). Therefore, we want to stand with you in prayer and faith, believing God to perform a healing work in your life.

Our Healing Rooms will be held from 3:45 - 4:45 pm on Sunday evenings weekly.

Appointments for personal ministry can be made starting at 3:30 pm on a first-come, first-serve basis. This personal time of ministry will typically last 20 minutes with one of our Healing Rooms ministry teams.

Prophecy Rooms
9/7/2014 3:45pm - 4:45pm

At IHOP Atlanta, we desire to encourage and strengthen believers through the prophetic ministry. We have prophecy teams that are trained to hear the heart of the Lord for people and to minister His words of encouragement, edification, and exhortation (1 Cor 14:3). It is our prayer that believers will be strengthened in their faith and have a clearer understanding of how God feels and thinks about them after receiving ministry in the prophecy rooms. If you desire to encounter God's love for you in practical way, we encourage you to sign up for a ministry time in our prophecy rooms.

The prophecy rooms are open on Sundays from 3:45-4:45 PM. Appointments can be made 15 minutes prior. They are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Appointments typically last 10 minutes and are recorded for your convenience.

Encounter Service
9/7/2014 5:00pm - 8:00pm
Each service incorporates prophetic worship, Biblical teaching, prayer, and ministry times. Each service is geared to call individuals to a depth of the knowledge of God, intimacy with Jesus, urgency for the hour, and the Sermon on the Mount lifestyle. Through proclamation and impartation, each service is focused on providing a place for encounter with God for the individual, as well as generating a shift in the spiritual atmosphere over the city of Atlanta. Immediately following the service, there is an Information meeting for anyone desiring more information regarding IHOP Atlanta.
